With advancing technology in the healthcare sector, rehabilitation services have evolved with the incorporation of artificial intelligence and Robotic rehabilitation. Saudi German Orthopedic & Trauma Hospital believes in keeping pace with the high technologies in all sectors of patient care. To provide innovative and ultra-tech rehabilitation we have equipped our Rehabilitation department with Robotic devices.
Robotic rehabilitation provides effective and intensive training of the whole body for people going through moderate to severe disabilities. It activates the body in a supported and corrected position, with progressive weight-bearing to relearn the walking.
About 15% of the world’s population lives with some form of disability, of whom 2-4% experience significant difficulties in functioning. This global estimate for disability is on the rise due to population aging and the rapid spread of chronic diseases, as well as improvements in the methodologies used to measure disability.
Robotic rehabilitation has given new hope for patients with disabilities to come back to life, being able to stand, walk and gradually return to their normal lifestyle. Robotic technology has evolved as an important part of lower extremity rehabilitation, enabling recovery of people with lower extremity disorders leading to problems in gait. Gait improvement is both a desirable and important outcome for social and vocational reintegration. Robotic rehabilitation has numerous advantages. In particular
– It allows tailored rehabilitation activities for the patient.
– Physiotherapists can modulate the intensity of the exercise program to a higher level without causing distress to patients.
– Modulation of robotic assistance & patient effort take place gradually and in a very safe manner, hence chances of injury get minimized.
– Participation from the patient to exert force and kinematics is smooth.
Saudi German Orthopedic & Trauma Hospital Robotic rehabilitation unit has an exoskeletal system, mechanical and electronic systems. This mechatronic apparatus is donned on the patient and with safe body weight suspension support & robotic control system patient performs kinematics and dynamic activities. All the exercises performed in the robotic rehabilitation are goal-oriented and linked to a virtual reality system incorporated into the machine. The virtual reality feature in the robotic unit helps to get visual feedback on all the activities.
The biofeedback system enables patients to watch their performance live (eg., speed, number of steps, calories burnt, target achieved, amount of weight transferred, etc.,) which helps to motivate the patient to improve his performance in every step.
We are taking benefit of Robotic Rehabilitation in a wide range of our patient population, including:
- Spinal Cord Injury
- Stroke
- Parkinson’s
- Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
- Traumatic Brain Injury
- Elderly care
- Post-surgery
- Orthopedics, pre & post-op cases
